Under California's Constitution and laws, the five members of the Board of Supervisors serve as the legislative and executive body of Marin County. The Supervisors also serve as the governing board of the Open Space District,Housing Authority, Redeveloment Agency, Transit District, Marin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, County Free Library, and various other local entities. Within limits prescribed by the State's Constitution and laws, the Board enacts ordinances, determines policies, adopts annual budgets, fixes salaries, is responsible for ensuring that mandated functions are properly discharged, and supervises the activities of County departments.

Marin Housing Authority Meeting:  The Marin County Housing Authority is separate and distinct from HUD, from county government, and from other county and state agencies - much like a special district. The Housing Authority Bpard of Commissioners currently consists of seven members - the five members of the Board of Supervisors, and two public housing tenants. Marin Housing operates programs in the incorporated areas of Marin under Cooperation agreements with the local towns and cities.
