TRAFFIC OPERATIONS
Responsibilities:
The Traffic Operations Division responds to all inquiries, including constituents, supervisors and other governmental agencies, relating to traffic safety and regulations on the County maintained roadway system as required by the California Vehicle Code.
1. Evaluating and recommending that the Board of Supervisors adopt a traffic resolution or ordinance establishing traffic regulations that include:
A. Prohibited, restricted and preferential parking zones
B. Speed limits
C. Intersection controls, such as stop and yield signs
D. Turn restrictions
2. Engineering and Traffic Surveys evaluating discretionary safety improvements that include:
A. Passing and no passing zones
B. Warning or advisory signage
C. Roadway striping changes
D. Bike lane identification and signage
E. Intersection sight distance
F. Evaluating warrants/criteria for new traffic signal locations
3. Provide assistance to other departments
A. Reviewing and commenting on development applications regarding traffic safety issues
B. Establishing and maintaining traffic control and regulations at all County facilities
C. Coordinate enforcement actions with the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff
