Re-Tooling Your Career

According to Library Branch Manager Donna Mettier, an increasing number of people come to the library seeking books and information on business start-ups as alternatives to unemployment.

To assist job seekers considering starting a business, John DeGaetano, Certified Business Advisor from the Redwood Empire Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has scheduled sessions at the Novato Library, aimed specifically at Novato professionals looking for a change.

  • Learn marketing skills for a new endeavour
  • Build confidence in working for yourself
  • Seek a broader job pool for your existing skills
  • Get connected to the SBDC

Developing business Unemployed, retirees, recent graduates, or anyone ready for a change is welcome to attend.

Popular magazines online...for free from home!

The public libraries in Marin have provide online access to thousands of free, full-text magazines and journals—at your fingertips (literally).

Titles like Newsweek, Time, and People are available at the click of your mouse from the Library's Digital Content webpage. No need to go to the newsstand or to buy dozens of magazine subscriptions. Just come to the library's website, and you've got it all right there! Digital content

Anyone can access the database of magazine articles inside the library, and anyone with a card from any of the public libraries in Marin can access EBSCO from home, work, or school. Just go to the Library's Digital Content webpage, click on the link to EBSCO Combined Search under Magazines and Newspapers, and log in with your name, library card number and PIN.

Does your child have required reading for the summer months? Before you pay full price, come check out our Summer Reading Cart--we've got the titles on lists for lots of Marin County schools. Volunteers are keeping the book cart stocked with all the selections we can find in our inventory--come take a look before they're gone! At prices from 75 cents to $4 (most around $1-2), you can't beat it!

The Book Place is run by the knowledgeable volunteers of the Friends of the Marin County Free Library a nonprofit organization devoted to raising funds for the libraries. You can help by volunteering at the store, by becoming a member of the Friends and by donating books and buying books at The Book Place.

Our store hours are Mon/Tues/Thurs/Sat 10-4, Wed and Sun Noon-4, and Friday 10-7. For more information about the Friends and The Book Place, visit our website: http://marinlibraryfriends.marin.org.

Read to a Dog~
Kids can read to a dog in the Library's Children's Room. Sponsored by the Marin Humane Society, kids age 5-9 are invited to practice their read-aloud skills in 10 minute sessions. The dogs are trained to help children relax and enjoy the read-aloud experience--great for kids who are reluctant to read aloud, or are shy.

BOOKMOBILE
The Marin County Free Library Bookmobile visits geographically isolated communities throughout the County. Most stops are made twice within a four-week period each month. Copies of the Bookmobile schedule are available at all County Library branches and on the Bookmobile’s webpage.

The Library provides in-home delivery of library books, tapes, CDs, and other materials to our patrons who have a permanent or temporary disability that prevents them from getting to a branch of the library system. FEMA City
