Anyone who follows the news can't help but be aware that the
State budget situation is deteriorating rapidly and the legislature swings
wildly back and forth on proposed solutions. How does this impact the Library?
We are most affected by the discussions about Proposition 1A, which would
allow the State to borrow about $800,000 of our tax revenue and not return
it for three years. A loss of that size from our $12,500,000 budget will
have serious affects on our libraries.
We will have to make decisions that will
be painful for everyone who loves the Library and who knows what they mean to
our communities. Our continuing goal is to maintain the libraries that we have
worked so hard to create and to give the best possible service to our loyal
patrons.
