The Marin County Free Library will be offering the public a
Late Fee Forgiveness week at all their branches during the week
of April 12-18. This opportunity will allow the public to return overdue
Marin County Free Library materials to any of our locations without being
charged a late fee. This is not a forgiveness of fees previously accrued,
but only applies to overdue materials returned during the amnesty period.
Late Fee Forgiveness Week allows for the recovery of valuable long
overdue materials that often cannot be replaced. During these challenging economic
times, the Library wishes to reach out to all our patrons, including those who
may have stopped using the library because of the accrual of late fees.

represents the interests of the residents of the 400+ homes in five floating
home marinas on Richardson Bay. For many years, the Association has raised
funds for our library through its renowned Floating Homes Tour. It was with
great regret that the Association did not organize a tour for 2008, but
we are hopeful it might return in 2009. Please, check their website in the
coming months for further information.
On April 22nd, historians Richard Cunningham &
Larry Clinton, will give an illustrated talk on the houseboat communities of Sausalito,

Library Journal, the premier publication for librarians,
has awarded the Marin County Free Library three stars for excellence in library
service.
After evaluating over 7000 public libraries throughout the
United States, Library Journal awarded stars to only 256 libraries, based
on four per-capita service indicators library visits, circulation,
program attendance and public internet computer uses. The Marin County Free
Library is proud that on average, each year each of our residents visits
us 7.6 times and borrows an average of 10 books.
MCFL is one of 30 starred libraries in its expenditure category
nationally, and one of only 16 starred libraries in California. The Marin County
Free Library system achieved this rating through the continuous hard work of the
entire Library staff, and the support of the Library Commission, the Marin County
Board of Supervisors, the Library Foundation, the Friends of the Library, and
the Marin County community. The full
report is available on the Library Journal's website.
