The eighth Annual Book Super Sale will take place the weekend of March 29/30
at the National Guard Armory in San Rafael (Armory
Drive across from the Civic Center). The sale is FREE to the public both
days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; a special Members' Preview Saturday 8-10 a.m. kicks
off the event. Memberships are available at the door for $25.00.
The sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Marin County Free Library,
will again feature nearly 30,000 books in 35 popular categories. "The
massive amount of donations we receive all year long provides us with
much more than we can ever offer/display at our ongoing retail outlet,
The Book Place," says Ruth Arnold, Sale Chair. "Over half of
the books you'll see at the sale were from donations we immediately boxed
and stored for this sale. So people may find some gems among the offerings."
Along with the traditional used books,
a Better Books/collectibles section will again offer books, magazines, sheet
music, and early California history material. A Silent Auction on Saturday morning
is a highlight for collectors. Prices start at 50¢ for a small-size
paperback & $2.00 for hardbacks (fiction/mystery/romance). Pricing is reduced
further on Sunday, and a Bag Sale wraps up the event Sunday afternoon.
An important part of the
job-search process is researching job-market potential. How is a particular
industry doing? What are the prospects for a specific occupation or profession?
What is the work environment like in a particular company? Our pathfinder
can help lead you to the answers. This
resource was compiled for a library presentation for the Marin Professionals,
a program offered through the California Employment Development Department
for professionals, managers, and technical-sector personnel in career transitions.
The information sources listed in our pathfinders are just a few of the resources
available in online and in the library. For further help in getting started
with your research, using specific resources, or to address any information
queries you may have, Reference Librarians are available and most willing to
assist. Meeting Needs in Our Communities
Our Library has a short and simple Mission Statement "to make a broad range
of culture, information and knowledge available for the needs of the public."
During our Vision Planning process we set out to learn more about those needs.
We went out into our communities and talked to hundreds of people, just like you,
and learned what they wanted and needed and expected from their library - more
new 'stuff', short waits for materials, programs for kids, homework help . . .
Meeting our patron's needs will be both challenging and exciting.
Do we need better designed and more efficient buildings? Yes
Do we need to reach out into the community more often to talk to both folks
who use the library and those who don't as yet? Yes
Do we need to have a broad selection of books across our system and more
specialized collections to meet local demand? Yes
Our Services and Facilities Vision
Plan is our blueprint for the future but we are starting to build that future
now however we can. You can help!Talk
to your local librarians and let them know where our collections fall short
or what stops you from using our resources effectively. Tell
them what works so we can do more of it. Ask
for a speaker for a group you might belong to and we can explain our vision
and our services. Help us
fulfill our Mission.
