Going Green?

Going green Seems like everyone’s “going green” these days. What does “going green” really mean? And what is “sustainability” all about? How do these concepts tie in with global warming? To find information sources that answer these questions, please visit the resource list, Sustainability Resources at the Marin County Free Library and Beyond, for library books, videos, and DVDs, and a list of websites concerning a green environment and a sustainable world.

A Loverly Valentine’s Celebration

Marin Literacy Program is hosting a big-screen showing of “My Fair Lady” on Valentine’s Day at the Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael. The show begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, following a reception with tea and chocolates from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

The event, a fundraiser “for the love of literacy,” features the Pygmalion story of Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins, starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison. To add to the fun, the audience is invited to sing along to Alan Lerner’s irresistible lyrics. Attendees are also encouraged to come in period costumes.

Come read to a dog at the Library!

The Marin County Free Library has special events almost every day for children of all ages. Here's a highlight of one of one in our series:

Branch Event A Marin Humane Society trained volunteer and dog are coming to the South Novato Library twice a month ~ the next time will be Wednesday, February 20th. This is a very successful nation-wide program to help kids overcome their fear of reading aloud. Children are picking colorful library Reader books designed to help them learn how to read easily. South Novato is fortunate to have a good collection with reading level stickers to aid in choosing a book and a children's librarian is available to help. Space is limited so please call 506-3168 to sign up.

For information about this and other Library Events and Classes please visit our branch event webpage or our online calendar .

The Book Place

News from The Book Place

1608 Grant Avenue, Novato
415-209-0212

We've received a large supply of popular Japanese Anime video (on VHS)--we're letting them go at $1.00 each! Come early for best selection.

For you audio book lovers, we've got an abundance of audio book choices on cassette. Many are library discards, but we've also amassed a number of donations. These are great if you commute, or while doing errands around the house. They are also on sale for $1.00--sorry, CD audio books are not included.

And of course, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, who knows what else you can find for your special someone?

The Book Place is operated by the Friends of the Marin County Free Library, a nonprofit volunteer organization devoted to raising funds for the libraries. You can help by volunteering at the store (call Nancy Montgomery, 883-5628), by becoming a member of the Friends (call Ginny Schultz, 883-5488) and by donating books and buying books at The Book Place.

For more information about the Friends and The Book Place, visit our website: http://marinlibraryfriends.marin.org.
