When the dust settled after the Book Super Sale this March, the Friends
of the Marin County Free Library found net proceeds exceeded $16,000. This
isthe highest amount in the Sale's seven-year history.
Following the public sale, bulk sales and disbursement to pre-arranged buyers
and charities cleaned up the rest. "Not a single book went into the dumpster,"
reports Ruth Arnold, Sale Chair. "Every book found a home."
Preliminary plans for the proceeds include an allocation for more books on
CD, and replacement of worn children's picture books in county library branches.
These two items in particular are very popular with library patrons, and continue
to be among items people ask for most.
The Friends wish to thank all of you who attended and purchased books at the

Speaking of The
Book Place, this month's Bargain Sunday is the Stock Up for Summer Reading
Sale. Mystery paperbacks will be 4 for $1.00, and the hardcover editions
are 50% off. Additionally, Biography, History and Romance categories are also
50% off. It's hard to let a sale like this go by, particularly with those long
summer days and vacations coming up. Come on by and build up your stash!! Sunday
hours are noon to 4 pm!
Recent changes to our catalog have made it possible to search for recorded
books in specific media formats.
Books
on CD and Books
on Cassette are now separated into two categories. Patrons who only
want one format will no longer have to look through the general audio category.
Other changes to
Advanced Keyword Searching allow patrons to look for multiple formats or multiple
locations at the same time...for instance, both DVDs and VHS choices in a single
search or a specific title on the shelf at either Marin City or Corte Madera.

The Library's digital media collection, Overdrive,
has recently expanded to include a selection of free
music downloads. These additions highlight classical music titles from
the Naxos label, such as Tchaikovsky's
Nutcracker, the Brandenburg
Concertos, and Gershwin's Rhapsody
in Blue. Music from the collection may be downloaded in WMA format and
played on your PC
during the time of the loan period (7 days) or may be transferred to compatible
devices, such as MP3 players, laptops, Pocket PCs, and Palm OS devices.
Calling all super sleuths and daring detectives: dig out your magnifying
glasses and dust off your fingerprint kits. Were on the case to Get

The Marin County Free Library Bookmobile visits geographically isolated communities
throughout the County. Most stops are made twice within a four-week period each
