Photographs documenting the history of Marin County from the Library's Anne
T. Kent California Room are now included on two California-wide websites:
The Online Archive of California brings
together historical materials from a variety of California institutions, including
museums, historical societies, libraries and archives. Over 120,000 images;
50,000 pages of documents, letters, and oral histories are searchable on this
site.
The University
of California's Calisphere is a newly created site of primary source materials
especially designed for use in California schools, grades K-12. It includes
lesson plans and dozens of themed collections such as the California Gold Rush
and the Transcontinental Railway.
Collaboration with these two sites emanated from a Library Services and Technology
Act grant awarded to the Library last year. The Library's own California
Room Digital Archive is another excellent resource for Marin County history
including thematic photograph albums, oral histories and an inter-active map
of Marin's original Spanish land grants.

It is estimated that 24,000 Marin County adults can't read and write well enough
to meet their personal goals. The Marin
Literacy Program served nearly 1,600 of those adult students last year,
and our student waiting list is never empty. Please contact us for more information
