The Marin Literacy
Program, jointly operated by the Marin County Free Library and San Rafael
Public Library, is thrilled to announce the grand re-opening of the Pickleweed
Community Center scheduled for later in July. The planned Open House for
the new the Pickleweed Community Center and Pickleweed Library will be on Saturday,
July 15th. However, the exact date of the opening is predicated on the contractor's
final sign-off of all electrical and plumbing changes. Furniture and shelving
is in place at the new library, and the process of moving books and other materials
will start during the final week in June.
The site is considerably changed with the addition of classroom space, a large
entrance foyer, extra bathrooms, and a beautiful new gymnasium. The very popular
community meeting room and kitchen are still in place. The library area includes
a computer lab, set up for classroom or public use during scheduled hours. The
exterior is covered with warm colors of green, taupe and rust; the interior
carpeting is colorful and inviting. It is felt that the community will be very
proud of this addition to the neighborhood and the literacy program is delighted
to have a computer lab resource for its students in the Canal area of San Rafael.
