The Economic Impact of Adult Literacy

Did you know?

In 1999, Literacy Volunteers of America commissioned a study to find out the economic impact of the money their local adult literacy programs spent on tutoring adults. The study, done by A.T. Kearney, one of the world's leading management consulting firms, resulted in a report titled "Literacy Programs: Making a Difference - A Review of Research on Positive Outcomes Achieved by Literacy Programs and the People They Serve". The report concluded that $33 (in 1999) in economic benefit is returned to the overall economy for every $1 invested in providing Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA) services. *Note that Marin Literacy Program was accredited by LVA in 2002, before it merged with Laubach Literacy and they became ProLiteracy Worldwide.

The full report is available on ProLiteracy's website or you can go directly to the report at http://www.proliteracy.org/downloads/LitOutPDF.pdf.

To discover the many ways your donations can make a difference, please contact the Marin Literacy Program at 415-485-3318.
