Barry promises great slides and many colorful stories. He knows the subject better than anyone else, having published a book Dipsea, The Greatest Race.

  • Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds
    Join us this summer as we explore Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds at the Civic Center Library. Our Summer Reading Game is open to all young people, from preschoolers to teens, with free programs, prizes, drawings, and more. Grab your library card, swoop down into the library this summer, and grab some smoldering reads. This 8 week program runs from June 20th to August 13th. Pre-registration begins Wednesday, June 15th.     The workshop teens need to help them smooth out the bumps in the road…parent issues, changing schools, friendship stuff. This free, fast paced, funny workshop will be presented by Annie Fox, M.Ed. Annie Fox is an educator, author of Teen Survival Guide and Too Stressed to Think, creator of www.InSite.org and online teen advisor “Hey Terra!”. Annie will help teens understand how to make choices that work best for them and how to negotiate more effectively with parents.

    Dorsetta Hale, the author of a book of essays entitled The Coast is Clear, will speak at Marin City Library Monday, June 20, at 7 PM. Ms. Hale is a former resident of Marin County.   • Intermediate Internet: Beyond the Basics Class

  • Contributions for new carpet in Inverness Library
    Contributions are still being accepted for a new carpet for the Inverness Library. Make checks out to "Marin County Free Library" and mail to: Ann Taylor / PO BOX 1330 / Point Reyes Station CA 94956. The carpet will be purchased from Interface, the largest carpet manufacturing company in the world - a green, sustainable company. For more information about the CEO Ray Anderson see the film "The Corporation" or go online to the Interface website and read about their philosophy and goals. Anderson was transformed by reading Paul Hawken's The Ecology of Commerce and Daniel Quinn's Ishmael.

Bargain Sunday is June 5 from noon to 4:00 pm. Sale categories, all at 50%, include:

- Romance--both paperbacks and hardbacks
- Mystery paperbacks (3 for $1.00)
In addition, everything in the Clearance Room (except sets) will be 10¢!

The Book Place is open ALL Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm (except Bargain Sunday, the first Sunday of every month, from noon to 4). And every Sunday is Senior Sunday! People age 65 and older will get a 20% discount on everything they purchase on Sunday. We are also putting some category of books on sale every Sunday--an unadvertised special. Come in to see what's special each week!

We are celebrating our 35th anniversary! In honor of this occasion, all mystery paperbacks will be 35¢ during Anniversary Week, June 7-12.

The Book Place is operated by the Friends of the Marin County Free Library, a nonprofit volunteer organization devoted to raising funds for the libraries. News from the Friends of the Marin County Free Library

The Friends of the Marin County Free Library are having our Annual Meeting on June 12, from 2 to 4 pm at The Book Place. This is going to be a very special afternoon, as we are celebrating our 35th Anniversary! As a special treat, we'll have music and dancing from our founding year, 1969, with dance instruction by Fodie Baker and the fabulous staff of Stars Ballroom in Novato. This event is only for members of the Friends; if you are a member, you will receive an invitation in the mail. Please join us for this special occasion!

The June 20 Local Edition program on Channel #26, the public access station throughout Marin, will feature Past-President Barbara Madrid. She will discuss current Friends' projects and accomplishments. The program will first be shown on Monday, June 20 at 8:30 pm, and will be repeated at 10:00 pm every evening that week (June 20 through 24).
