In the interest of providing more Spanish-language resources for our Spanish-speaking patrons, the Library has subscribed to CQ Researcher en Español. This database is available on our Databases page and is also highlighted on our Servicios en Español page.
CQ Researcher is a database of full-text articles on political and social issues like health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy. The English version is heavily used by Marin students, and we hope the Spanish version will appeal to our Spanish-speaking students and patrons.
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Library! Two Spanish-language databases, Consulta and ¡Informe!, will be available free during Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, 2004. Consulta is a Spanish-language collection of reference content, magazines and primary documents that can be searched using an English or Spanish interface. ¡Informe! offers the full text of 132 popular Spanish-language magazines and journals. Let us know what you think of these resources by e-mailing our e-Services Librarian at library@co.marin.ca.us.
We are very proud to announce that on Sept. 21, the Marin County Board of Supervisors presented a resolution recognizing, honoring and commending the contributions of the Friends of the Marin County Free Library to the residents of Marin County. Our organization was founded in 1969, and in those 35 years, we have given over $1,000,000 to the libraries for much-needed programs and acquisitions! All our funding comes from memberships and donations, and from selling books at The Book Place and at our annual Super Sale.

Do you know about Library Beyond Walls? It’s a relatively new program of the Marin County Free Library that delivers library materials to people who are unable to get to the library in person, due to a permanent or temporary disability or illness. For the last year, we have been focusing on bringing materials to adults age 55 and older, but as of September 1, 2004 we are no longer bound by an age restriction.
Library materials (books, audio tapes, videos, etc.) are delivered to clients by local volunteers. In our work up to this point, we have seen that the personal interactions between the client and volunteer are very important to both parties. In addition, the materials the clients receive contribute to a healthy, active mind. More than one of our clients was unable to use the library for many years before they began to participate in this service. Now, they are receiving monthly deliveries of library materials from local volunteers.
If you, or someone you know, might be interested in our services, visit Library Beyond Walls online at http://www.co.marin.ca.us/library/lbw/index.cfm. Or, phone your local branch library for more information:

Riding the Railroad in Marin County, circa 1900 chronicles the railroad in Marin at the turn of the century. Take a ride on the North Pacific Coast Railroad through Marin County at the turn of the last century. You will begin your journey at the San Francisco Ferry Building and end in the West Marin town of Tomales. Along the way you will pass such landmarks as the Hotel Larkspur, Pastori's resort in Fairfax, and Taylorville.
Notice anything different on the Library's homepage? We've added a simple search box to the top of our homepage!
This means that from our homepage, you can run a search in our catalog by author, title, keyword or subject! Of course, to run more detailed searches (limiting by location, date, material type, etc.) you can still use the regular MARINet Catalog page. Enjoy!
