The Country Club at Bear Valley: One of the oldest hunting clubs in Northern California, The Country Club in Bear Valley was established in 1890 by members of the Pacific Union Club in San Francisco who were seeking a bucolic spot with plenty of fish and game for their sporting activities. It was located in Point Reyes, near what is now the Bear Valley picnic area. This album, probably one of a limited number put together for club members, dates from circa 1890-1895.

The Friends of the Marin County Library are celebrating our 35th year this fall! The organization was founded in 1969, and in those 35 years, we have given over $1,000,000 to the libraries for much-needed programs and acquisitions! All our funding comes from memberships and donations, and from the income from selling books at The Book Place and at our annual Super Sale. Thanks to all you members of the Friends for your continuing support! If you'd like to become a member or volunteer, call
The Book Place (878-0212) for information.
September 5 is Bargain Sunday at The Book Place! In recognition of "back-to-school," our sale categories include literature and drama at 50%; philosophy and religion, humor, and crafts also at 50%. All pocketbook-size paperbacks in the store will be 3 for $1--mix and match! And finally, all atlasas will be 50% off. Come and see our wonderful selection! We are located at 1608 Grant Avenue in Novato (near 7th Street).
We expect the Grant Avenue construction to reach our block sometime soon. Fortunately, The Book Place has a large parking lot in the rear of the store, and a back entrance from the parking lot. You can enter the parking lot from 7th Street.
What's new on the Library's website? The whole site! The Library site received a complete re-design. The new site launched on Wednesday, August 11th. The response to the new site has been very positive--it's much easier to find what you're looking for and the site has a cleaner look to it as well. Check out our two new additions to the site as well:
The Readers Corner--where you can find recommended reads, book-related online databases, library book clubs, e-book collections, and recommended websites.
Servicios en Español--a list of our Spanish-language services and resources.
Enjoy! And e-mail our webmaster at library@co.marin.ca.us to let us know what you think!
