Peter S. Behr (1915-1997)

Peter was a lawyer and conservationist who gave over 20 years of his life to public service
in California. He was on the Mill Valley Planning Commission (1954-1956), served as Mayor of
Mill Valley (1956-1960), was a Member of the Board of Supervisors (1962-1969), and a California
State Senator (1970-1978). Called the "Mr. Integrity" of local politics, Peter was a driving force behind major conservation legislation, locally and statewide. Here, he talks about his
years of service and his belief that individual citizens can make a difference in shaping their
community through voting, letter writing, and running for office.
