Miriam Gerstle Wornum (1898-1989)

Wornum Miriam is the granddaughter of Lewis Gerstle, Vice President of Alaska Commercial Company. This company had exclusive rights from the United States Government in 1868 to take seals from the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea. Miriam tells of her early years on Washington Street in San Francisco, her summers at the Gerstle home in San Rafael, later given to the city as a park. She also relates her impressions of the Schloss, Gerstle and Lilienthal families, her career as an artist, her many trips abroad, her marriage and life in England for 30 years, and her writing.
