Born and raised on the family’s Nicasio ranch, Florence’s father was a Swiss dairy rancher. Her mother, Ora May Cornwall, was born in Petaluma. Florence recalls ranch life, including the cattle, butter-making, housekeeping, riding horseback to school, her friends and schoolmates, and the simple pleasures of the horse & buggy days. In 1912 she married Marino C. Tomasini and moved to Petaluma. Her son, Henry, was a successful banker and later ran the 500-acre family ranch. Florence remarried in 1942 to Fred Knecht.
