Nell Doherty (1885-1984)
Interview date: March 12, 1975
Nell Doherty Nell has been a resident of Larkspur since 1906. She describes early, turn-of-the-century Larkspur, including the Larkspur Inn, Escalles, the Bon Aire Hotel, life along the Corte Madera Creek and the “Rose Bowl” dances. She also discusses the volunteer fire department, Owl’s Wood, Jim Corbet and the Tiscornia property. In addition, she talks about her husband’s lumber company, the “Hot Houses” of George Nivens, the early Arks, and Hill’s Boat House. This interview was recorded at Nell’s residence in Greenbrae.
