March 15, 2004

Carl Book at his home, March 15, 2004
Carl Book received his training in architecture at the University of Illinois and University of California, Berkeley. From 1955 to 1956 he apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin North and West.

After finishing his apprenticeship at Taliesin West he moved to Northern California and in 1961 joined Aaron G. Green & Associates. He worked with Mr. Green for fifteen years on numerous projects including the Marin County Civic Center.

For the past forty years, Mr. Book has had his own architectural practice and has also been a lecturer on architectural history in the California Community College system.

In the excerpts which follow, Mr. Book discusses Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural philosophy especially as it relates to the design and construction of the Marin County Civic Center.
