Boyd Stewart (1903-2004)

Boyd Stewart was born at the Cottage Hospital in San Rafael in 1903 and brought up on the family’s ranches in West Marin. The family began raising cattle in Nicasio and then moved to a ranch in Olema. Stewart attended Nicasio Grammar School and Tamalpais High School and then Stanford University. He was a strong political advocate for ranching issues and was instrumental in the creation of the Point Reyes National Seashore. He realized that the creation of more parkland would preserve the character of West Marin for posterity. In this interview, Stewart shares his own family history and provides insights into West Marin’s pioneers and early history.
