FRIENDS OF THE CORTE MADERA LIBRARY

Minutes of the February 11, 2004 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Co-President Annette Schriebman at 10:05 a.m. at the library.  In attendance:  Annette Schriebman, Jan Shaw, Nancy Davis, Harry Schriebman, Jerri Ceschi, Sue Bigall, Roy Davis, Kay Lowney and Nancy Brooks.

Reports:

1.      The Minutes of the January 14 meeting, as prepared by Jan Shaw, were approved.

2.      Jerri Ceschi presented the Treasurer’s Report (attached).  We received $1,626.25 from the County Friends for memberships.  The expenditure for 34 new chairs totaled $5,354.22.  Our working capital is $10,983.02.

3.      Used Book Store:  Sue Bigall reported sales of $195 on January 29 and $303 for February 5.  She asked if the percentage allocated to Chapters had been reduced.

There may be a decision on this at the February 14 FOL meeting.

4.      Membership Chair not in attendance.  A list of new Corte Madera members who joined when County Friends conducted a large mailing last fall was circulated.

5.      County report:  There was no report.

6.      Branch activities:  Nancy Davis reported that the parking lot lights had finally been connected and the temporary lights removed.  The ADA spaces have been modified, the stairs on the hill were removed and the bench moved down the hill.  She expects delivery of the new meeting room chairs on February 17.  The library is now providing 3 story times for toddlers, preschoolers, and 4-7 year olds.  There is no report on the source of the water leaking into the Children’s room.

Old Business:

a.       Chairs to be delivered February 17.

b.      The bike rack is on hold until Cindy Winter returns to the County.

c.       Garden:  We are very concerned about the continued use of the blue tarps over sections of the garden – it is feared that plants and a tree may be lost.

New Business:

1.      Book sale:  Jan Shaw and Nancy Brooks will contact people to staff the Super Sale on March 13 and 14.  Concern was expressed about filling the more strenuous jobs of unloading before the sale and loading after the sale.  Discussion of hiring workers for these jobs.  Nancy Brooks will ask about insurance coverage from the County FOL.

M/s to hire workers for unloading and loading if the County Friends have the appropriate insurance.  This motion is null and void if there is no coverage.

2.      We will have a salad luncheon for staff after our April 14 meeting.

3.      We are scheduled for the library display window in September.  No ideas at this time; discuss in May.

4.      Activity to reach new members:  no ideas at this time.

Meeting adjourned at 11:13.

Respectfully submitted, Nancy Brooks, Secretary
