D.  Reports/Updates:

1.      County Reports:-  Jan Shaw attended the last County Friends meeting and reported (1) the parking lot plan for Corte Madera Library has been approved and will go out to bid in early 2003.  (2) There is talk of a 1/8 cent sales tax to be on the ballot for the libraries.  A poll will be conducted to ascertain the feasibility of such a tax.  (3) In regard to the Agreement of Merger of the various Friends chapters, there was a discussion of the minimum membership rate of $10.00, but Marin City has a special senior citizen rate of $5.00.  It was decided to make an exception for Marin City and that ½ of membership contributions up to $25.00 shall be remitted to the County Friends.  (4) It was requested that book shop staffers not go into Janet’s office and (5) not change the thermostat.  (6)  August income for the Shop was $8,509.

2.      Treasurer – The Treasurer presented a report for the month of September 2002.  (Copy in the Secretary’s file.)  There were 4 membership renewals.  The Working Capital is $6,015.64 as of September 30, 2002.

3.      Foundation:  Kay Lowney was not in attendance.

4.      Used Book Store – Sue Bigall reported that income from staffing the 1st Thursday in October should be about $180.  Sue noted that the list of Book Shop Volunteers in the latest “Library Leaves” was incomplete.  She will follow up with Pat Hess.

5.      Branch Activities:  All is set for the discussion of the “Grapes of Wrath” on October 10.  Jan has purchased cookies and juice for the event.  Nancy Davis presented a draft of the program for October 17 when members of the community will discuss their experiences during the depression years.  Because a large audience is expected, we will not provide refreshments for the October 17th event.  Nancy referred to a list of California historical fiction books which are in the Corte Madera collection.

E.      Other Business:  Marguerite again volunteered to call new members to welcome them and possibly get them interested in participating in our group.  Jerri will provide the information.

F.      Adjournment:  The meeting adjourned at 11:25 a.m.  The next meeting will be our Annual Meeting and is scheduled for November 13, 2002 at 10 a.m. in the Library.

Respectfully submitted,
