Process Support Office Aide, DA.
Help keep important
legal documents organized so that criminal cases can move forward
smoothly as
you assist with essential behind-the-scenes tasks at the District
Attorney’s
Office. Tasks might include filing cases, looking up information,
marking/noting cases, and data entry. Intern will have
opportunity to
observe court proceedings. The ideal volunteer is accurate,
detail-oriented, organized, knows standard clerical work , and respects
strict

Community
Prevention Specialist/Intern, Prevention
Hub.
Are you interested in public health? The ideal intern will help the
Prevention
Hub team to implement trainings, develop resources and data, and assist in electronic and
web communication
with contracted providers and the general public. The ideal intern
is
passionate about health and disease-prevention issues and has
organizational
and communication skills. Two assignments available. Hours: Up to
15 a
week; Tuesdays and Fridays preferred. Youth, young adults, and
high school
students are especially encouraged to apply. Staff will provide
orientation. Office located in San Rafael. Some work could be done from
home on
the Internet.
Deputy
Public Guardian Intern, Public
Guardian. Protect
incapacitated adults and gain case experience working with
professionals on the
Marin County Public Guardian team. The intern will help investigate
cases of
potential neglect or abuse, accompany deputy public guardians to court
and on
visits to clients’ homes and hospitals, make phone calls, and
help prepare
documents for court appearances. In response to client needs, office
atmosphere
can range from calm to crisis as team members work to keep clients safe
and
preserve their assets. The ideal intern is responsible, accurate,
service-oriented,
has great people skills, and is interested in social work, the law,
and/or
issues related to mental illness and dementia. Required:
ability to maintain strict confidentiality,
work independently after receiving direction, and use Word, Excel,
Outlook, and
common office machines. Hours: 8 to 16 a week on a flexible schedule.
Staff
will introduce student to policies and procedures, provide PG-Pro
Panoramic
software and HIPAA training, and will include the intern in some staff
meetings.
Emergency
Call Data Analysis, Public Health. The Intern will assist in the analysis of
data from 911 calls to help guide interventions to redirect
inappropriate use
of emergency medical services for issues that may be better addressed
by
primary care systems. Intern should have research, needs assessment,
and
statistics/data collection and analysis skills. Candidate should also
possess
good written and verbal communication skills. Quarter or semester
preferred,
10-15 hrs/wk (Full day shifts preferred).
Health
Education in
Marin Residential Facilities, Public Health. Intern will
provide
outreach and education to nursing homes for developing capacity to
protect
residents and staff from influenza. Provide education and materials for
infection control, and assist residential care facilities to increase
flu
vaccination rates among staff and residents. Comfortable working in the
community, presenting information, and working behind the scenes in a
public
health setting. Approx. 12 wks, 10-15 hrs/wk.
Prevention
Hub: Healthy Eating/Active Living (HEAL) Projects, Public
Health. The Intern
will provide training to community providers & volunteers
to help map resources for healthy eating and active living. The Intern will assess gaps to empower the
community in making changes to improve with nutrition education in
early
childhood settings. Ideal candidate will have a background/interest in
nutrition and healthy living and comfort with public speaking/teaching.
Bilingual (Spanish)/bicultural candidates encouraged to apply. Must be
well
organized, willing to work with school aged children, professional, and
have

Public
Health Advocate Intern, Community
Health and Prevention
Services. Are you
interested in
Community Health and Prevention strategies that embrace programs for
low-income
families through nutrition education as well as assessing environmental
challenges? The ideal intern will have experience in programs with a
focus in
public health nutrition, psychology, health education or a related
major.
Interns should have excellent

Information Communications Intern, Community

Safe
Routes for Seniors Project Asst., Public
Health. The Intern will help develop “Safe Routes for
Seniors," and
enhance opportunities for seniors to maintain “active
living” by promoting safe
options for getting outdoors. The Intern will conduct a survey of
elder’s
needs, fostering an intergenerational partnership between a local high
school
and elders, and advocacy for senior-friendly transit options. Intern
should
have research, needs assessment, and program skills as well as good
written and
verbal communication skills. Requires a proactive approach and comfort
with
offsite visits to stakeholders. Quarter or semester preferred, 10-15

Specialty
Care Research Asst.,
Public Health. Intern will provide
research, needs assessment and evaluation of access to specialty care
in four
community (federally qualified) health care clinics in Marin County. Intern will evaluate the referral systems,
the clinics' ability to serve patients, costs associated with various
tests,
and reimbursement data. The project will
culminate in recommendations of specialty services and a system of
access to those
services. Intern should have research, needs assessment, and program
skills as
well as good written and verbal communication skills. Requires a
proactive

Helpdesk
Technician, Technical
Services Data Center.
Are you an
energetic,
self-motivated student intern, interested in getting some hands on
training in
the computer technical support field, while assisting the IST Helpdesk
technicians
to support their County Of Marin clients? The Helpdesk
technician’s duties
include answering the telephone, communicate with clients,
troubleshooting
problems for desktops, laptops and mobile devices, replacing hardware
and
installing new software on client’s machines. Skill set includes
someone with
computer hardware and software troubleshooting skills and also with a
good
working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and 2010.
LIBRARY
Graphic
Designer, FLAGship Bus,
Civic Center. Use your
talent for
design on a project updating the images on FLAGship bus, which houses a
traveling literacy program for underserved areas of Marin. (FLAG stands
for
Families Learning and Growing.) Final design will be used for new vinyl
graphic
on the sides of the bus. FLAGship staff members drive the bus to
community
locations four days a week. The design identifies the program to
patrons and
the public. Required: Academic project and/or work experience designing
large
images; knowledge of and access to Adobe Illustrator; and the ability
to
incorporate the existing logo and some children’s drawings into
the update.
Hours: 6 to 18 a week on a flexible schedule. Much of the assignment
may be
done remotely. Staff will provide orientation and will work closely
with the design
intern.
LAW LIBRARY
Law
Library Intern Aide, Law Library. Support Marin
residents who need legal
information while learning about the field of law and learning legal
terms. The
intern at the Marin Law Library, which is open to the public, will help
keep
information up-to-date and accurate by replacing old information with
new in
legal binders. The intern may also help patrons find information. The
ideal
intern is dependable, accurate, has good customer service skills, is
interested
in the law, and is available 4 hours a week. Staff will provide
orientation and
the opportunity to learn from a junior college law program designed by
Law
Library staff members. Hours: 4-hour shifts from 9-1 and 1-5 are
available
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Schedule may be modified by mutual agreement
between
staff and intern. Location: 20 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael.
Commitment of

PARKS
Administrative
Aide, Open Space
District Admin. Want to help
our parks
and open spaces but not interested in digging brush on the
hillside? Are

contractors, and Marin Housing staff members during a construction

Intern,
Adult Probation. Are you interested
in a AOWP work program, which is an alternative for jail?
If you enjoy data entry and a variety of
administrative tasks and general office duties, this is the assignment
for you.
The intern will answer phones, sort mail, fax, and file. The ideal
candidate
has some computer experience, some office experience and has
organizational
skills. On-site training is provided.
Flexible schedule, Tues – Friday preferred, 3-4 hrs/wk.
Employment
Advisor,
Juvenile Hall. Help incarcerated
teens craft resumes, complete forms, practice interviewing, and
understand the
basics of an opportunity search. The ideal intern knows something about
the
local job market for teens, can help students consider appropriate
opportunities, and has some background in social services, education,
administration of justice, or a related field.
Intern must be 21 or older, comfortable visiting a locked
facility, and
able to maintain strict confidentiality. Hours: 4 to 8 a week for at
least
three months. Staff will provide orientation and ongoing support.
Probation
Services,
Adult Probation Services. Thinking
about a career in Probation services? The Intern will learn how the
role of
Probation fits within the Criminal Justice System and, when
appropriate,
participate in case management activities and be allowed to attend
department/division training. Overviews of the Adult
Division’s programs
through observation of the Drug Court and Drug Court Team; STAR Court
and STAR
Court Team; Prop 36 Court and the Prop 36 Court Team; Family Violence
Court and
the Family Violence Court Team; and opportunities for observation of
Superior
Court sessions will also be provided. The intern will have the
opportunity to observe probation officers interview defendants for
probation
sentencing reports, and routine case management. Preference will
be given
to students who can give a two-semester commitment; first semester is
an
overview period and the second semester will be geared toward practical
hands-on experience. Intern position currently closed and
will
re-open in fall.
Restorative
Justice Mediation Intern, Juvenille
Probation. Make a
difference by helping repair the
harm. Be a part of a Restorative Justice process between
offenders and
injured parties where an offender has a chance to take responsibility
for
his/her actions and the injured party has an opportunity to be heard in
the way
they want to be heard. We are looking for students who are
bilingual/bi-cultural (Spanish), have good communication skills, work
collaboratively with others, and are intuitive and patient. Prefer
students who
can commit for at least 6 months. Hours are negotiable and training is
available. Compatible areas of interest include but are not limited to:
Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Political Science, Philosophy and
Spanish.
SHERIFF
(Applicants
must be at least 18 and are subject to the Sheriff’s Office
drug use
guidelines and required to pass a background investigation prior to
appointment.)
Coroner
Intern, Sheriff.
The
Coroner’s Office has about 50 unidentified individuals and
they want to
reunite them with their families. Intern will focus on this
project by
using the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) in
conjunction with the Coroner’s database. Student may have
the opportunity
to investigate a forensic death and/or attend a medical exam. We
are
looking for students who are detailed oriented, familiar with web based
searches, computer savvy and have word processing and data entry skills
i.e.
Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Student should be available either once
or twice
a week for 4 and up to 8 hours/week. Students studying criminal
justice,
anthropology, forensic science or nursing are encouraged to
apply. Professional
appearance required as well as passing a criminal justice background
check.
Crime
Scene Identification Intern, Investigations. Be a member
of the Marin
County Sheriff’s Office’s very own CSI unit! Work alongside
Crime Scene
Identification Technicians and learn how to process a crime scene, the
right
way to collect and process evidence, and basic fingerprint
identification
techniques. You are a university student on your way to a degree
in the
sciences (you’ve taken a class in anatomy, chemistry and
understand the
scientific method). We are looking for an inquiring mind, someone
eager
to learn, who is precise, has good communication skills and is able to
deal
with the administrative functions of the job. You need to be
available at
least 5 hours a week; we would like more hours but we’ll work
around your
school/work schedule. Over half your time will be spent working in a
team
environment either in the office or in the field. You won’t
mind that
this opportunity is unpaid because the knowledge and experience you
gain will
benefit you when you begin your career as a forensic scientist. A
background is required for this opportunity so do not be discouraged if
it
should take several months to complete.
Social
Media Specialist,
Emergency Management Services. Use your social media smarts to
assess
and recommend effective approaches to social media for the Information
Technology team that helps keep Marin ready for emergencies. Working
with
staff, the intern will establish a social media program for the Office
of
Emergency Services. The ideal intern has knowledge of social media, the
ability
to organize and work independently, and a major in computer science,
business,
marketing, or journalism. Not required but a plus: bilingual
ability,
good people skills, initiative, a sense of the future of social media,
or
public relations skills. Hours: 8 to 16 a week for a semester or until
the
project is finished. Hours: anytime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on
Tuesdays
and/or Thursdays. Staff will introduce the intern to emergency
management,
county government, and computer operations.
