The update to Marin's Countywide Plan began in 2000 with the convening of the Sustainability Working Group. A series of events have occurred since that time, culminating in the adoption of the Plan by the Board of Supervisors on November 6, 2007. The following are a result of this process:

A comprehensive public participation component was one of the most important aspects in preparing this version of the Countywide Plan. This program combined several techniques in an effort to reach out to the greatest number of people and invite community conversations that helped shape the plan. The Plan was updated to reflect extensive input from the public (including 4 working groups). There have been over 100 meetings open to the public in the process to update the Countywide Plan.
