Library Commission

PURPOSE/DUTIES:   To serve as a resource body and liaison to the Board of Supervisors, the County Librarian, and the community. To work to find ways and means of enlisting public interest in supporting and improving Library services.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Membership shall be broadly representative of the demographic characteristics of the county and, insofar as appropriate, shall include representation from various economic, social, occupational, ethnic, racial, and age groups, in particular from the following sectors: youth, older persons, business, labor, and education. To the extent feasible, at least two members shall be professional librarians with experience in professional library work. The most important qualification for membership shall be a demonstrated interest in the development and support of the Marin County Free Library.
TERM LENGTH:   3 years, maximum of 9 consecutive years, staggered terms
NUMBER OF MEMBERS:   Fifteen
REIMBURSEMENTS FOR EXPENSES/PER DIEM:   Commissioners submit monthly to the Vice President expense receipts incurred while on official Commission business. Vice President maintains records of reimbursements requested and forwards them to the County Librarian for further processing.
TIME AND DAY OF MEETINGS:   Regular meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month, unless a holiday, at 7:00 p.m. Location rotates among Library branches. For information, please call 499-6051.
