2009 UPDATE: Project Overview

The purpose of the yellow star thistle management project is to restore an estimated 125 acres of land that have been infested by yellow star thistle (Centaurea solstitialis), an invasive weed. Due to its ability to colonize and spread rapidly, yellow star thistle displaces native plants and animals and significantly degrades grasslands. It is harmful to wildlife, pets and horses, and limits public access to recreation.

The slopes of Mount Burdell support many rare plants including fragrant missionbells, Marin Western flax, and the only know Marin population of cupped monolopia. Acting now to prevent the spread of this invasive weed will preserve native plant communities and help ptotect dependent wildlife.
