South Novato Library's Move to Hamilton

Why are we moving to Hamilton?
We have always wanted to have a library at Hamilton, one of the fastest growing
areas of Novato. When the Library lost its lease at Pacheco Plaza, we explored
a number of options and chose the Hamilton Hangars as the most suitable location.
We are excited to be close to senior housing, workforce housing, schools and the
rapidly growing residential areas.
What will the new address be?
Hangar 6 (officially 6 Hamilton Landing)
When do we hope to open?
June 5th
The new library will be about 50% bigger than the current storefront. We’ll have
room to expand our large print collection, which is heavily used by seniors; to
provide a small dedicated space for teens with popular magazines, books and study
space; to increase our media collection of audio books and videos/DVD’s; to provide
a larger children’s area with space for programming; and an additional public
use computer plus the capability of using a wireless connection for personal laptops.
Working with the Friends of the Novato Libraries, Mark Schatz, our architect and
a Hamilton resident, has spearheaded a fundraising drive that has raised more
than $37,000 dollars. Now we’ll be able to replace our old grungy furniture with
colorful upholstered chairs and a sofa in the children’s area; new study tables
for teens and adults; a new, larger public computer table; and some comfortable
reading chairs in the magazine area.
All of the popular services of the current library will be available at the new
branch. Family Literacy will continue to have space in the Library for their tutoring
services. The hugely popular Summer Reading Program will kick off children’s programs.
Regular story hours will be scheduled for pre-schoolers.
