E-JUS is the concept name for a new, integrated Justice system for the County of Marin and participating Justice Agencies.
Current Situation: The Marin Justice
community is served by a growing number of discrete information systems, some
of which provide cross-integration of data. As new systems are added, a great
deal of effort will be needed to connect and share information.

The Future: As each agency pursues state
of art information services, some thought needs to be given to the mechanisms
which will allow access by all to critical data. The E-JUS concept provides
two methods to achieve this integration:
E-JUS Access: A search and display mechanism which crosses the boundaries of all systems and provides an integrated "view" of justice information.
E-JUS Transfer: A data transfer mechanism which allows data to be passed from system to system as needed.

sketches one possible view of the E-JUS environment.
Technical Issues: To achieve true integration,
all participating agencies will have to agree on a common interchange design
using XML. This will allow each agency to "own" their data, while allowing access
and exchange of critical information as needed.
