BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Clerical Assistant, District 3. Enjoy helping behind the scenes at the political heart of the county as you use your talent for organization on a project to evaluate and re-order files. The ideal volunteer is accurate, respects confidentiality, has office experience, and believes that an orderly system is a thing of beauty! Hours: 3 to 8 a week; flexible schedule. Staff will provide orientation to the district office. An initial “work party” effort will be followed by the opportunity, upon mutual agreement, to continue with weekly light filing and some data entry. Location: Marin Civic Center.

 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

Administrative Assistant, Administration.  Help county planners stay organized by typing, organizing files, and responding to telephone inquiries. The ideal volunteer is accurate, detail-oriented, a strong typist, able to multi-task, proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, and available 10 to 20 hours a week. Orientation to "behind the scenes" at the planning office will be provided by members of the staff. Ideal candidate is a software/hardware wiz with outstanding organizational and technical skills.

CULTURAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Docents, Marin Center Administration. Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts are needed to lead docent tours on an on-call basis at the historic Marin County Civic Center. Expand and share your knowledge with a wide range of visitors. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers with good speaking voices who enjoy teaching and leading groups on fascinating and educational hour-and-a-half walking tours of this national architectural treasure, Frank Lloyd Wright’s last project. Outstanding training provided by expert veteran docents.

Maintenance/Assistant to Director of Maintenance, Marin Center. Do you have “handyman” skills? Assist in facilities services for events at Marin Center. Services include facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing, key-locking, painting and exhibits. Mechanical aptitude and interest required. Hours: mutually agreeable schedule up to 3 days a week. Staff will provide orientation.

Receptionist, Marin Center. Get a front-row view of what goes on at the Marin Center. Receptionists help with mailings, answer phones, direct inquiries, and make copies. Other duties may include organizing a publicity book, assisting with Marin County Fair entries, and light computer work such as data input and word processing. Great assignment for a flexible person who enjoys promoting culture and the arts in a friendly, low-pressure environment. The show must go on, and with your behind-the-scenes help, it will! Hours: 3-hour shifts.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Legal Process Support Office Aide, DA. Help keep important legal documents organized so that criminal cases can move forward smoothly as you assist with essential behind-the-scenes tasks at the District Attorney’s Office.  Tasks might include filing cases, looking up information, marking/noting cases, and data entry.  Intern will have opportunity to observe court proceedings.  The ideal volunteer is accurate, detail-oriented, organized, knows standard clerical work , and respects strict confidentiality. Hours: 6—12 a week, or more by mutual agreement. Staff will provide a background check, orientation, and training.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

Fire Lookout, Fire. Be part of a team with potential to save lives, property, and landscape in Marin County by early notification of a fire. No experience is necessary, and training will be provided. Applicants must have transportation and be able to climb stairs. Those assigned to the Mt. Tamalpais Lookout must be able to hike a quarter mile. The Dickson Lookout in San Geronimo Valley can be accessed by car. The department provides screening and training, including shadowing a qualified lookout. The assignment is solitary by nature, yet lookouts feel part of a team through their connection to a staff supervisor and by interfacing with station personnel, communicating with the Emergency Dispatch Center via radio, joining other lookouts at training and social events, and communicating via the lookout website, www.Marinlookouts.com. Minimum commitment 8 hr shifts, July through October.

Newsletter Editor, Administration. Enhance Marin County Fire Department communications by planning and editing a quarterly newsletter (print and electronic). Use MS Publisher to create a paper; set up a publication calendar; coordinate the flow of copy and photos from department employees; and liaise with department proofreader. The ideal volunteer is a self-starter who inspires team cooperation, respects deadlines, and can implement a new publication and then maintain it. Some publishing experience required. Hours: Flexible, according to publication needs. Volunteer may operate at home or at department headquarters. Staff will provide orientation, editorial policy, and supervision.

HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES

Administrative / Management, Marin Medical Reserve Corps. Looking for a leader that has office experience in clerical, administrative, and management work. Volunteers may be called upon to provide non-medical support on as-needed basis in the case of an emergency situation and/ or for routine events (e.g. Annual Flu Clinic, Health Fair, CPR trainings, or Public Health Outreach). Volunteers are required to register as Disaster Service Workers and swear an oath of loyalty. Types of projects include: database support, volunteer outreach, website maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and equipment inventory. A long-term commitment is requested and to remain active, volunteers must complete 16 hours/ year of service.

Administrative / Management, Marin Medical Reserve Corps. Looking for a leader with experience in logistical, administrative, and management to be called upon on as-needed basis in the case of an emergency situation. Volunteers may be called upon to help with routine events (e.g. Annual Flu Clinic, Health Fair, CPR trainings, or Public Health Outreach). Volunteers are required to register as Disaster Service Workers and swear an oath of loyalty. Types of projects include: obtaining and maintaining facility equipment, services, and supplies; supervising teams; participating in the development and implementation of action plans. A long-term commitment is requested and to remain active, volunteers must complete 16 hours/ year of service.

CASA Advocate, Marin Advocates for Children. Every year more than half a million abused, neglected children need safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another with no family to call their own. As trained advocates, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. CASA volunteers are ordinary people committed to doing what is best for the child. Volunteers are trained in courtroom procedure, social services, juvenile justice system, and the special needs of abused, neglected children. A two-year commitment is required. Must be available various weekday afternoons and one Saturday morning to attend mandatory training (9 sessions); training began Feb 2012; next training session begins June 2012.

Chaplain / Clergy, Marin Medical Reserve Corps. Volunteers should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment designed to assist the community in a real emergency. Volunteers should be comfortable working with the public and display leadership while assisting in an emergency situation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations and to solve problems quickly. Volunteers may be called up to help on as-needed basis for routine events (e.g. Annual Flu Clinic, Health Fair, CPR trainings, or Public Health Outreach). Volunteers are required to register as Disaster Service Workers and swear an oath of loyalty. A long-term commitment is requested and to remain active, volunteers must complete 16 hours/ year of service. Volunteers will be asked complete online computer trainings on disaster management system.

Clerical Aide/Packet Assembler, Public Assistance Eligibility. Help clients in need connect with public assistance resources by assembling packets of forms and information to be distributed to applicants. Packets differ depending on the program and the time when applications are being distributed (new application versus re-certification).  Efficiency and attention to detail are crucial. Self-paced; flexible hours. Training provided.

Connection Center Resource Desk Assistant, Health and Wellness Campus. The volunteer in this vital entry-level assignment greets, directs, and provides resource and referral information to visitors and clients at the Connection Center at the county’s Health and Wellness Campus. Ideal candidates will welcome visitors and help them feel comfortable. Assignment requires providing information about campus programs and community resources, escorting clients to other buildings, and entering resource and referral information into a database. Shifts available weekdays 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with particular need mid-day (12 noon–1 p.m.) and Wednesday evenings until 8 p.m. Orientation to the campus provided by staff.

Dental Assistant, Public Health. Individuals in this position should be: legally certified to provide services in the U.S., and trained in sterilization and infection control procedures. Hands-on clinical experience in the U.S. is preferred. Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism. Candidates must be reliable and able to commit to a regular, consistent work schedule. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays, 9-4:30.

Dentist, Marin Medical Reserve Corps. Volunteers must be licensed in the state of California to be able to provide emergency dental care in disaster situations. The ideal volunteer should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment designed to assist the community in a real emergency.  Volunteers should be able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations, solve problems quickly and creatively, and follow instruction well. Leadership experience a plus. Volunteers are required to register as Disaster Service Workers and swear an oath of loyalty. Volunteers may also be called upon to help during the year with routine events (e.g. Annual Flu Clinic, Health Fair, CPR trainings, or Public Health Outreach). A long-term commitment is requested and to remain active, volunteers must complete 16 hours/ year of service.

Drivers, Chronic Care Management. Do you like to drive? Help someone who can’t! Drive a patient for same-day surgery and help settle them at home, or drive someone to a doctor’s appointment. Flexible hours, monthly team meeting, and gasoline reimbursement. Group meets every third Tuesday.

Facilitators, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, "Healthy Living," Aging and Adult Services.  Help people suffering with chronic illness learn skills and tools to cope with their disease. The Division of Aging & Adult Services is seeking facilitators to lead six-week sessions of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. The content is in the form of a well-designed, interactive, scripted program developed at Stanford University. Are you suffering from chronic illness yourself? We encourage you to apply. Medical or teaching background not necessary, but a plus. The program is educational, fun, and powerful. Formal training provided.

General Assistance Program Aide, Employment Services. Your help is needed to provide administrative support for the General Assistance program, which gives first-time employment services to opportunity-ready, indigent residents who are ineligible for other types of public aid. Duties include reminder calls, scheduling and rescheduling appointments, mail correspondence, preparing forms, filing case files, workshop registration, making copies, processing payments, and more. Hours: Tuesday mornings preferred, one day a week, 3 to 4 hours total. A 10 a.m.—2 p.m. shift is ideal. Staff will provide orientation and training.

Graphic Arts/Visual Translator Assistant, Public Health. Seeking an eager individual with strong computer graphics skills who can see the big picture and summarize ideas using visual graphics.  Individuals with a background in marketing, public relations, or communications a plus. The ideal candidate will be interested in health education, access to health care, and equity issues. This role may involve meeting and working with community coalitions that work on social issues and prevention efforts (youth substance abuse, healthy eating/active living and diabetes prevention).  Flexible schedule, estimate 10-15 hours per week, some work can be done at home.

Interpreters, Marin Medical Reserve Corps. Interpreters needed to provide non-medical and/or medical proficiency in both English and another language (including American sign language) to be called on as-needed basis in the case of an emergency situation. The ideal volunteer should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment designed to assist the community in a real emergency.  Volunteers should be able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations, solve problems quickly and creatively, and follow instruction well. Leadership experience a plus. Volunteers are required to register as Disaster Service Workers and swear an oath of loyalty. Volunteers may also be called upon to help during the year with routine events (e.g. Annual Flu Clinic, Health Fair, CPR trainings, or Public Health Outreach). A long-term commitment is requested and to remain active, volunteers must complete 16 hours/ year of service.

Marin Medical Reserve Corps Member, MMRC. Make a difference by sharing expertise, aptitude, and elbow grease with our consortium of creative talent. The Marin Medical Reserve Corps provides trained, organized, expert professional volunteers to supplement the county’s response to public health and disaster medical needs. If you have special interests in the following areas, MMRC would love to talk with you: video production, photography, press communication, event planning and management, production of promotional materials, public speaking, bookkeeping, grant writing, catering, and archives maintenance. Orientation to the Corps provided.

Mental Health Professional, Marin Medical Reserve Corps. Licensed Mental Health Care Professional (e.g., M.S.W., Ph.D., and PsyD, MD) in the state of California are needed to be called on as-needed basis in the case of an emergency situation. The ideal volunteer should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment designed to assist the community in a real emergency. Volunteers should be able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations, solve problems quickly and creatively, and follow instruction well. Volunteers are required to register as Disaster Service Workers and swear an oath of loyalty. Volunteers may also be called upon to help during the year with routine events (e.g. Annual Flu Clinic, Health Fair, CPR trainings, or Public Health Outreach). A long-term commitment is requested and to remain active, volunteers must complete 16 hours/ year of service.

Patient Advocate, Aging and Adult Services. Are you passionate about helping those in need? Join our team of easygoing, warm, friendly volunteers who help patients navigate hospital care. The Project Independence program bridges the gap between a participant’s discharge from the hospital and the return to autonomy and quality of life at home. Patient advocates support clients in understanding and following discharge plans and medication orders. Advocates also coordinate and arrange for community services that may be helpful and may transport clients. Pre-placement background check provided. Staff will provide initial training in 15 hours over three weeks. Advocates must participate in ongoing in-service trainings.

Reception Aide, Aging and Adult Services. Are you friendly, reliable, and discreet, with good customer service skills? Be the first stop for visitors to the renovated reception area at Aging and Adult Services. Volunteers will be trained to triage walk-ins and phone calls so clients may be referred to services such as In-Home Support Services, Adult Protective Services, or the Public Guardian. Volunteer will complete intake forms and do data entry. Required: good judgment and interest in volunteering side-by-side with staff members. The ideal candidate will have organizational skills and desire to assist older adults. Office or telephone experience a plus. Hours: About 10 hours a week in 3.5-hour shifts from 8:30 a.m.-12 noon or 1-4 p.m. Three-month commitment required. Staff will provide orientation and training.

Senior Peer Counselor, Community Mental Health Services. Are you 55-plus and interested in helping older adults deal with aging-related issues? English- or Spanish-speaking peer counselors are needed to provide one-to-one weekly counseling to clients in their homes, helping them cope with issues of aging while providing emotional support and practical resources to help comfort and empower them. The ideal volunteer is compassionate, understanding, and has an interest in his or her own personal growth. Training is required and is offered once a year for new volunteers. The eight-week training covers basic counseling skills, issues of aging, and community resources. After training, volunteer counselors attend weekly team meetings Thursday afternoons at 10 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael.

Senior Peer Counselors, Spanish-Speaking, Community Mental Health Services, Public Assistance. Ayude a la comunidad! Queda ud. invitado a ser consejero……A.C.A.S.A. – Amigos Consejeros A Su Alcance – le da la oportunidad de ponerse al servicio de personas de la tercera edad. Le interesa ser consejero y participar como voluntario?  Ahora si se puede! Debe ser una persona mayor de 54 años, sensible y compasiva, con el deseo de servir a los demás, dándoles apoyo y soporte emocional. El Curso de Capacitación comenzará  en Whistlestop.  Habrá una clase semanal de tres horas por 8 semanas.  No se necesita título académico. Todos nuestros servicios son gratuítos y confidenciales. Este es un programa de entrenamiento anual.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Layout Editor, HR. Do you have an eye for design and a respect for deadlines? Help recognize contributions made by County of Marin volunteers and interact with people across the county organization! The Volunteer View layout editor helps lay out pages. Some editorial experience and the ability to use Adobe PageMaker are plusses. Ability to write headlines and photo captions are also plusses. Hours: About 8 hours a month; flexible schedule. Location: Marin Civic Center. Staff will provide orientation and proofreading.

 

Research & Outreach Aide, Volunteer & Employee Program, EEO. Utilize your outgoing personality, initiative, and creative thinking to support equal opportunity and increase the county’s recruitment outreach for minorities and women to obtain a higher number of applicants. Includes phone-calling, online research, and contacting local nonprofits and current Equal Employment Advisory Council, Human Rights Commission, and Marin Women's Commission members. The volunteer may be invited to attend some local meetings to meet contacts and network.  Required:  Ability to create an e-mail list using Microsoft Excel or Word.  Hours: Minimum of a half-day per week on a flexible schedule at the Marin Civic Center or from home.  Training includes orientation and thorough discussion of the goals of the division. Staff will provide current and potential additional contacts.

LIBRARY

Graphic Designer, FLAGship Bus, Civic Center. Use your design skills on a project updating the images on the FLAGship bus, which houses a traveling literacy program for underserved areas of Marin. (FLAG stands for Families Learning and Growing.) Final design will be used for new vinyl graphic on the outside of the bus. FLAGship staff members drive the bus to community locations four days a week, and the design identifies the program to patrons and the public. Required: Experience designing large images; knowledge of and access to Adobe Illustrator; and the ability to incorporate the existing logo and some children’s drawings into the update. Hours: 6 to 18 a week on a flexible schedule. Much of the assignment may be done remotely. Staff will provide orientation and will work closely with the designer.

LAW LIBRARY

Law Library Aide, Law Library. Support Marin residents who need legal information by giving of your time and skills. The volunteer Law Library aide will keep information up-to-date and accurate by replacing old information with new in legal binders, and may also help patrons find information. The ideal volunteer is accurate, detail-oriented, has good customer service skills, is interested in the law, and is available 4 hours a week. Legal background not required but is a plus. Staff will provide orientation and training. Hours: 4-hour shifts from 9-1 and 1-5 are available Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hours may be changed by mutual agreement. Location: 20 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael.

Library Assistant. Volunteers needed for basic, crucial tasks at the Law Library. Build or use your skills by opening or closing the Library, turning computers on and off, stocking photocopy machines with paper, and similar tasks. Training also available for other library tasks. The ideal volunteer has some background in library services; familiarity with the law is a plus.

Web Master. Use your web-design talent on the Law Library’s newly launched website by developing a web-based community resource to improve access to a wide range of legal materials. The volunteer will work with the director for further construction of the Library's site. Website design skills are needed for this assignment. Orientation provided by staff.

MARIN COUNTY FREE LIBRARY (Note branch location)

Child Literacy Teacher’s Aide, Marin Literacy Program. Share your love of learning as a support volunteer to the FLAGship (Families Learning and Growing) bus staff. The bus makes weekly visits to Marin area communities to reach families underserved by other preschool services. Volunteers meet the bus at a selected location and help staff serve parents and children. Activities include school readiness, story times, art projects, singing, health information, and English literacy for adults and children. The ideal volunteer is comfortable with diverse groups and enjoys young children, children’s literature, and children’s music. Spanish fluency is a plus. Literacy training required. Make a difference for as little as 2 hours a week for 6 months. Bus hours: 8:30 to 2:30, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. See www.marinliteracy.org for schedule of sites.

Library Talent Scout, Marin County Free Library. Libraries are about more than books and computers! Make a difference for library patrons by creating programs and coordinating with other libraries to provide enrichment programs for patrons and the surrounding community. Arrange appealing workshops, coordinate with librarians and branch managers, and report your progress to the project coordinator. Do you have a knack for networking with friends, family, civic groups, and faith communities? We encourage you to apply! Training and support provided. Commitment: 6 months to 1 year.

“Listen In” Reader, Corte Madera Library. Take your love of literature to the community by reading aloud to residents of assisted facilities and seniors’ residence homes. The ideal volunteer will enrich the lives of listeners, instill the joy of literature and books, and stimulate discussion and learning. Volunteering in the Listen-In Program provides an opportunity to expand one’s own knowledge of literature and ideas. Must be at least 18, reliable, patient, have a good speaking voice, articulate clearly, and enjoy older people. Hours: Up to 2 a week, including preparation and 30 minutes of reading. Current sessions held at Aegis Living (Paradise Drive, Corte Madera) on Thursdays, 1:15-2:15 p.m. Program may expand. Minimum commitment: 6 months. Librarian will provide guidance.

Senior Access Reader, Novato Regional Library. Do you enjoy reading aloud? Touch lives and make a difference by reading to a group of frail elderly listeners, some with early Alzheimer’s, every Tuesday from 1:30–2:30 p.m. in Novato. The ideal volunteer loves stories, is comfortable reading in public, and is an expressive speaker. Some listeners are hearing-impaired; the ability to speak up and articulate with energy is essential. Current TB test required; test is provided free of charge by the county.

Tutors, Marin Literacy Program, San Rafael Library. Help open a door on the world! The Marin Literacy Program is looking for sensitive tutors for eager adults 1.5 to 2 hours a week over a 6-month period. Work one-on-one or in small groups. Orientation to the program is offered monthly from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the San Rafael Public Library, 1100 E Street, San Rafael. Volunteers receive 16 hours of training offered quarterly on two consecutive Saturdays (9:15 a.m.—4:30 p.m.).           

MARIN COUNTY PARKS

Administrative Aide, Open Space District Admin. Want to help our parks and open spaces but not interested in digging brush on the hillside?  Are you detail oriented & familiar with computers? If so, we can use your skills!  Help is needed with computer data entry, keeping the citation patrol log and filing patrol reports at the friendly Lucas Valley office. Orientation and training will be provided. Flexible hours, 2-4 hours/week.

Civic Center Landscape Steward, Park Facilities. Do you marvel at the landscaping inside and around Marin County’s historic Civic Center? Become a Civic Center Landscape Steward and help keep garden areas looking beautiful. Orientation regarding the importance of landscaping and of hand weeding as it relates to Integrated Pest Management will be provided by the Chief of Landscape. Self-paced work in a relaxed environment with flexible hours.

Gatehouse Attendant, Parks and Landscape Services. Enjoy volunteering as part of the Marin County Parks team as you greet visitors to McNear's Beach Park, Stafford Lake Park, or Paradise Beach Park. The volunteer will collect fees, answer the phone, direct park patrons, and interact with the public and staff. The ideal volunteer is personable and dependable. Minimum of 2 hours per day, up to a full day. Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applicants will be interviewed Parks staff and undergo a background check with the Marin County Sheriff's Department. Volunteers may serve at one of the three parks exclusively, or all three. Parks knowledge very helpful. Volunteers will be bonded by the county. Orientation provided by staff.

Irrigation Specialist, Park Facilities. Do you enjoy working with irrigation systems to help plants thrive? This could be the assignment for you. The volunteer will check drip and sprinkler-head irrigation to address coverage issues. In addition, the volunteer will adjust heads and drip line valves as needed to address problem areas on turf in landscaped areas. The ideal candidate has background in irrigation system operation and landscaping. Orientation and training of park irrigation systems and controllers will be provided. At times, the volunteer will work alongside staff.

McInnis Skate Park Steward, Park Facilities. Do you enjoy watching skateboarders’ jumps and maneuvers? Have some time in the mornings or evenings? Responsible volunteers needed to tend to the skate park and tennis courts at McInnis Park, checking for safety hazards and making sure facilities are clean and working properly. The ideal volunteer is friendly with park visitors and may need to remind skate park users to wear helmets. As time and the volunteer’s interests allow, other duties may include sweeping paths, weeding landscaped areas, or picking up litter. Volunteer will be responsible for reporting any issues to the ranger. Hours: 7-9 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. Training and orientation will be provided, including basic MERA radio training.

 MARIN HOUSING AUTHORITY

Construction Project Management Aide. Put your construction experience to work as a volunteer with the Marin Housing Authority and help the Authority to become more energy-efficient. The ideal candidate has professional knowledge and background allowing him or her to create a project schedule, manage a project budget, develop logistical plans for occupied projects, conduct inspections, and approve shop drawings, performance bonds, field reports, etc. This team-oriented volunteer will be active in office and field settings. Hours: Up to 20 a week on a flexible schedule. Orientation provided by staff.

Labor Programs Compliance Aide. The Housing Authority is looking for a volunteer with legal compliance background and knowledge to help manage labor compliance agreements such as Section 3, Davis-Bacon Act, apprentice training programs, and other local, state, and federal labor program requirements. The ideal volunteer is analytical, thorough, and has compliance experience. Hours: Up to 10 a week on a flexible schedule. Staff will provide orientation. Location: San Rafael.

 Procurement Aide.  Help the Housing Authority team improve procurement practices by using your knowledge and professional procurement experience. The volunteer will assist staff with creating and distributing RFP’s/RFQ’s for contract labor; create bid documents that meet HUD requirements; and review and inventory existing contracts. Hours: 10 to 20 a week on a flexible schedule. Location: 4020 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael. Staff will provide orientation and training.

 PROBATION DEPARTMENT

Administrative Assistant, Adult Offender Work Program (AOWP), Probation. Come help the program that assists people back into the workforce. If you enjoy data entry and varied office work, this is the assignment for you! The volunteer will answer phones, sort mail, fax, and file. The ideal candidate has some computer experience, some office experience, and organizational skills. On-site training is available.

Office Assistant, Adult Supervision Unit, Probation. Are you looking for an opportunity for a self-paced, behind-the-scenes experience? The Probation Department is looking for an organized self-starter with an appreciation for detail to review documents for purging. Staff will provide training to give you the comfort level and knowledge to look through files and decide which should be destroyed. The assignment requires the ability to move several files at a time to a desk for review and then back to the file room. The volunteer will reorganize the file room as this task is completed. Before placement, a basic background check is required.

Restorative Justice Administrative Aide, Juvenille Probation. If you believe a tidy office is NOT the sign of a sick mind, we need and want you!  The mediation office is a one person operation and is looking for an organizational maven who will physically organize the office; including physical and computer files. Tech skills are a plus! Additional duties may include speaking to juvenile offenders and injured parties to set up an initial visit. Hours are flexible.    

Tutor, Bilingual, Juvenile Hall. Reach out to our young people! The school at Marin County Juvenile Hall needs bilingual tutors to help Spanish-speaking students learn to read and write English. Volunteer in a self-paced, team-oriented educational environment. Hours: 1 to 4 hours per day, 2 to 5 days per week. Training as liaison between staff and Spanish-speaking patients will be provided. Volunteer should be comfortable in a busy environment. Before placement, a mandatory background check will be provided. Orientation and security training provided by staff.

Tutor, Juvenile Hall. Make a difference in an incarcerated student’s day. Work with youth who will benefit from someone helping them stay on task. Assist with individual lessons in an academic subject you are confident teaching. Busy, team-oriented environment. Before placement, a mandatory background check will be provided. Orientation and training in security and rules and policies of Juvenile Hall provided by staff. Hours: 1 to 4 hours a day, 2 to 5 days  a week. Particular need for volunteers in the early afternoon hours.
