Marin County Healthy Eating/Active Living (HEAL) Strategic Planning
What is the Marin County Healthy Eating / Active Living Strategic Plan? Our aim is to create Marin’s first coordinated, countywide strategic plan which promotes healthy eating and active living in the places where we live, work, learn, and play. The strategic plan will build upon local assets and needs and also include strategies and action steps to engage stakeholders from across various sectors. The strategic plan will facilitate greater collaboration across programs and services and will better position Marin to receive future funding.
What does it mean to create a countywide plan?
Everyone has a role to play in improving community health. Together, we will work to create new systems and infrastructure to promote healthy eating and active living. A countywide plan will engage organizations and leaders from various sectors throughout the county. While this plan will be “owned” by the community, the Department of Health and Human Services will convene and facilitate the strategic planning effort.
How will the planning process work?
A small design team has been working to develop a participatory planning process, which engages stakeholders in the following ways:
HEAL Planning Group will be comprised of a large group of stakeholders that will review local data and identify the strategic directions and initiatives that make up the plan. This group will participate in three workshops to create the actual content of the strategic plan and develop a 12-18 month plan for implementation. The group meetings will be held on March 13th, 21st, and 28th.
HEAL Policy Group engages leaders and policymakers from many different sectors to build support for this plan among community leaders who will dedicate resources to assure the strategic plan’s success. This group will meet to review the plan in May 2012.
