MHSA-Subsidized Housing at the Fireside Senior Apartments

Fireside Housing

Marin County Community Mental Health Services (CMHS) will begin accepting pre-applications on December 4, 2009 to establish a waiting list for the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) subsidized units for seniors at the Fireside Apartments in Mill Valley.

CMHS will be screening applicants for eligibility to fill 5 MHSA-subsidized furnished apartment unit located at the Fireside Apartments, 115 Shoreline Highway, Mill Valley. These units are part of a 50-unit rental site for seniors and low-income families. Monthly rents for 1 person households will range from $236 for a studio apartment to $231 for a one-bedroom apartment, with yearly adjustments. Studio apartments can accommodate 1-2 persons and one-bedroom apartments can accommodate 1-3 persons. The rent covers water and garbage pickup costs; tenants will be responsible for all other utility costs (gas and electricity, telephone, cable TV, etc.). Intensive case management and housing support services will be provided by CMHS and tenants will be eligible to participate in community activities offered at the Fireside by Homeward Bound of Marin.

Interested individuals must submit a pre-application to be considered. Individuals are eligible to submit a pre-application if they are: 1) residents of Marin County, 2) 62 years of age and older, 3) enrolled in or qualify for case management services at CMHS, 4) homeless or at-risk of homelessness at the time of pre-application, and 4) meet the annual household income requirements of no more than $11,875 for a 1 person household, $27,150 for a 2 person household, and $30,540 for a 3 person household. The pre-application includes 6 forms: MHSA Housing Program Application for Eligibility Certification, MHSA Housing Program Certification of Homelessness, and four Authorization to Exchange Protected Information forms (one for Fireside Affordable Housing Associates, one for Eden Housing Management, one for Eden Housing Resident Services and one for Homeward Bound of Marin). All 6 forms must be filled out completely and signed. Incomplete pre-applications will be grounds for denial of application.

All completed pre-applications submitted by the deadline that meet the eligibility requirements will be placed on a waiting list. Application packets will be provided to all eligible applicants. Eligible applicants will be required to submit an Application for Occupancy and to sign authorizations for verification of income, assets, credit, criminal and prior landlord history. Eden Housing Property Management staff will process applications from the waiting list in the order in which they are received until all units are filled.

Pre-application forms for the Fireside Apartments MHSA-subsidized apartments will be available beginning December 4, 2009. The forms may be downloaded from this page or may be picked up between 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday at the following locations:

Completed pre-applications can be turned in or mailed to the HOPE Program at 3270 Kerner Boulevard, Suite B, San Rafael, CA 94901. Mail-in pre-applications must be postmarked by 5 pm, Thursday, April 8, 2010. For information, call Patty Lyons, MFT at (415) 473-4306.
