Elder Abuse Prevention Community Task Force

The Elder Abuse Prevention Community Task Force was established by the Marin County Commission on Aging in January 1996 to explore the causes of the physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse of elders and to develop more focused approaches to its prevention.

The Marin County Commission on Aging believes it is extremely important to raise public awareness of elder abuse and to mobilize citizens and communities to be alert to all forms of elder abuse.

The Elder Abuse Prevention Community Task Force welcomes community participation. For more information, call the Marin County Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Aging at (415) 473-7396.

Task Force Activities
The Elder Abuse Prevention Community Task Force presents at least one major day-long workshop each year. Previous workshops have included:
  • Sponsoring "Seniors Against Investment Fraud (SAIF)" trainings throughout the community. (2003-4)
  • A half-day conference, “Beyond Awareness: Responding to Suspected Financial Elder Abuse.” (2003)
  • Be Wise: Preventing Fraud and Financial Abuse in our Community (co-sponsor) (2001)
  • Community Forum on Elder Abuse Prevention: Strategies for Families & Caregivers, featuring Wendy Lustbader (2000)
  • Pain Management in the Elderly: Is “Care-Less” Management Elder Abuse? (1999)

Task Force Meetings
The Elder Abuse Prevention Community Task Force meets on the first Wednesday of every other month from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Division of Aging office at 10 N. San Pedro Road, San Rafael. If you are interested in joining the Task Force, please contact us.
