The Marin County Board of Supervisors has been the designated Area Agency on Aging since 1977. The Division of Aging and Adult Services is responsible for the Area Agency on Aging duties to plan, develop and coordinate services. Governed by guiding framework put forth in the Older Americans Act and Older Californians Act with funding administered through the California Department of Aging, the Area Agency on Aging strives to:
Allow older individuals to secure and maintain independence and dignity in their homes;
Remove barriers to personal and economic independence;
Provide a continuum of care for vulnerable older persons;
Secure the opportunity for older individuals to receive managed in-home care and community-based long-term care services.
The Division of Aging and Adult Services supports a variety of services that are provided by a network of local non-profit organizations and governmental agencies throughout Marin County. In conjunction with the four year planning cycle, every four years the Division issues a Request for Proposal (RFP) for open, competitive bid to agencies interested in applying for grant awards. Working with the network of aging service advocates in Marin County, DAAS seeks to ensure each individual in our community has the opportunity to Live Long and Live Well by creating and supporting services that enhance independence and quality of life.
