The Environmental Protection Unit
Mission Statement
The Environmental Protection Unit prosecutes civil
and criminal violations of California's
environmental protection laws. The unit handles
cases of water pollution, illegal waste
discharges, unpermitted underground storage of
hazardous materials, and unlawful disposal of
hazardous waste.
The District Attorney's Environmental Unit acts as the
Attorney for the People of the State of California in
prosecuting polluters. The investigation of persons and
businesses suspected of violating environmental laws are
conducted by various federal, state and local health
departments and environmental agencies who report their
findings along with their request for prosecution to the
District Attorney. The Unit works closely with these
agencies as a founding member, of the regional federal
state Environmental Task Force.
To report a suspected
environmental polluter you may print the
"Complaint Form"
from this site and mail it to the District Attorney's Office,
Environmental Protection Unit, or telephone the
Environmental Unit at 1 (415) 499-6450.
