Buddy Guy and Elvin Bishop

Friday, November 13, 2009
8 pm
Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium, San Rafael

Any discussion of Buddy Guy invariably involves a recitation of his colossal musical resume and hard-earned accolades—Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, chief guitar influence to rock titans like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, pioneer of Chicago’s fabled West Side sound—but the best part is that he is coming to Marin County.

Buddy Guy has received a bundle of awards, including five Grammy Awards and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. Just last year, Buddy appeared on the big screen with a show-stopping performance in Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stone concert film, “Shine a Light.” He appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone as part of the magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitar Songs” (his “Stone Crazy” made the list) and rounding out the year released his Grammy-nominated album, “Skin Deep,” with guest appearances from fellow guitar wizards Eric Clapton, Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. This is at the age of 72, mind you&mdasah;the man is phenomenal.

Marin County blues legend Elvin Bishop stirs up a party with a bluesy stew of slide guitar and groovin’ rhythms. Bishop has become one of the most respected and beloved artists to come out of the ‘60s blues-rock explosion. The ‘70s saw Elvin hit the charts with solo tracks like Travelin’ Shoes, Sure Feels Good and what would become his biggest hit, Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Elvin’s latest release, The Blues Rolls On, received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album.
