Mission Statement

The Marin County Counsel's Office provides innovative and high-quality legal services to County officials, departments and public agencies to protect the County of Marin and its resources.

The County Counsel is appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The office is comprised of a total of 17 attorneys and 8 support staff who specialize in the full spectrum of local government practice.

The department renders legal advice and affords legal representation to the County Board of Supervisors and serves as legal counsel in civil matters for all County departments, as well as many special districts. County Counsel attorneys do not provide legal advice to the public.  

This website is designed to provide general information regarding the County Counsel’s Office. It cannot be used for filing of claims or service of legal documents. Claims may be filed by downloading the claim form on this website and filing it with the office of the Board of Supervisors. Service of legal documents must comply with applicable law.
