Renewable Energy - It's your choice
Marin Clean Energy is designed to serve your priorities. It allows electric consumers to choose non-polluting renewable energy, lower Marin's greenhouse gas emissions, reduce our dependence on imported fossil fuels, foster development of local green power generation and clean technologies, and protect our homes and businesses from uncertain fuel prices.
You now have a choice of electricity with nearly twice the renewable energy content than you currently receive - at the same rates you currently pay. You also have the choice of 100% renewable energy at a slightly higher price.
What Is Marin Clean Energy?
Marin Clean Energy (MCE) is a renewable energy alternative to PG&E's electric supply that will soon be available to Marin customers. MCE is responsible for sourcing the power and purchases the energy supply while PG&E continues to deliver the energy, maintain and repair transmission lines, and provide customer service and billing.
The Marin Clean Energy Program supplies nearly twice the renwable energy content that you currently receive - at the same rates you currently pay.
Why Choose Marin Clean Energy?
After seven years of study, three independent peer reviews and participation and reveiw by 80 stakeholders, 40 task force members, seven city and town councils, the Marin County Board of Supervisors, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the conclusion is that MCE has zero fatal flaws, presents zero risk to cities' general funds, and will result in a local greenhouse gas reduction.
Marin Clean Energy (MCE) offers several additional key benefits including:
- Customer Choice - Light Green, Deep Green or PG&E
- Cost Competitiveness - Cost at or below PG&E
- Cost Stability - Predetermined supply costs
- Increased Renewable Energy - 25-100% renewable
- Focus on Customer Needs - Rates set to tailor local needs
- Competition in Business
- Local Jobs
- Local Revenue
- Local Renewable Development
- Energy Efficiency and Distributed Generation
- Direct Customer Participation in Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Am I in the Marin Clean Energy Service Territory?
The members of the Marin Clean Energy service territory are the City of Belvedere, the Town of Fairfax, the County of Marin, the City of Mill Valley, the Town of San Anselmo, the City of San Rafael, the City of Sausalito, and the Town of Tiburon. If you live in one of these cities or towns, or in an unincorporated area of the County of Marin, you are in the MCE service territory and have the choice to participate in Marin Clean Energy.
Customers cannot participate in MCE if their city or town council is not a member of the Marin Energy Authority.
Who Administers Marin Clean Energy?
The Marin Energy Authority (MEA) is the not-for-profit public agency that provides the renewable energy alternative through the Marin Clean Energy program.
MEA was created in December 2008 to address climate change by reducing energy related greenhouse gas emissions and securing energy supply, price stability, energy efficiencies and local economic and workforce benfits. It is the intent of MEA to promote the development of a wide range of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency programs including, but not limited to, solar and wind energy production at competitive rates for customers.
The Marin Energy Authority is governed by an 8-member Board of Directors representing each of the following 8 participating jurisdictions.
