Multi-family and Mixed-use Design Guidelines
The Marin County Community Development Agency has developed Multi-Family Residential Design Guidelines. The guidelines will define positive design attributes and set clear expectations regarding the character of new multi-unit and mixed use developments in unincorporated Marin County communities. They will be used by designers and builders as they generate new ideas, and will be used by County officials and community advisory groups when responding to and evaluating development proposals.
The May 2013 Revised Draft Multi-family Residential Design Guidelines are available for public review.

Spring, 2013 Following the Planning Commission's recommendation, a public hearing will be scheduled with the Board of Supervisors to consider adoption of the Guidelines.
Community Input:
The guidelines benefitted from extensive community input between August and December 2012. Two community meetings were held in late August 2012 to elicit design preferences and provide feedback on what citizens think is appropriate and desirable. A summary of those workshops is available here. Community input was also gathered through a design survey which was administered throughout Marin in August 2012.
A Working Group provided technical and community input as the guidelines are were developed. Members were invited to participate by Community Development Agency, Director Brian Crawford, and include architects, developers, members of design review boards, and other community representatives.
