General Information:
The Board of Supervisors has established
advisory boards, committees and commissions
to which it appoints Marin residents to
serve. Commissioners serve on a volunteer basis. There is a great range of
program and policy covered by commissions. Marin residents are encouraged to
apply for vacancies. An application must be completed and the applicant must
represent the constituency for the commission opening. For information about
commissions go to the
boards and commissions search page.
Vacancies are posted on the bulletin board outside Room 329, the
Supervisors Chambers. The list of openings to boards, committees and commissions is
posted here based on information which available from official
notices commencing January 1, 1996. The list is incomplete to the extent
that unfilled vacancies occurring before January 1, 1996 are not shown.
The appointments list is maintained by the Office of the Board of Supervisors.
If you have an interest in a specific board, committee or commission and
no vacancy is shown, please contact the Board of Supervisors, email:
BOS@co.marin.ca.us, telephone: (415) 499-7331 to verify the existence of a vacancy.
Notice Date:

result of term expirations are posted as prescribed by California Statute.
Commission:
The Commission description can be found at its website which can be accessed through the

Some commissions and boards have only a portion of their members appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
Constituency:
Generally, there are three sorts of constituencies associated
with each member position.
Supervisorial District Appointments:
Many of the Boards and Commissions have positions based on residency in
a specific supervisorial district. Applications for such appointments are
reviewed and recommendations made by the Supervisor representing that district.
At Large Appointments:
Many positions are open to applicants without regard to residency in a specific
supervisorial district. When more than one application has been received
for such a vacancy, the entire Board of Supervisors selects a list of applicants
to be interviewed. Interviews are scheduled, to be conducted during a Board
of Supervisors meeting, for the selected candidates.
Community Based Appointments:
Certain appointments are based upon specific affiliation with a group or community.
The Board of Supervisors receive and generally accept the
recommendations from the specific constituency to be represented when making these appointments.
The following commissions are examples: The Emergency Medical Care Committee
has specific positions for individuals representing Marin General Hospital,
Fire Chiefs, Policy Chiefs etc. Applicants for the Kentfield Planning Advisory
Board must be from the Kentfield area.
Current or Retiring Member:
The name of the individual who last occupied the position.
Applications Due By:
This date represents the deadline for applications to be received
by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. Applications are due in room 329
of the Civic Center by 5:00 p.m. In the event that no applications are received,
the "applications due by" status is replaced by "open".
Appointment Date:
The date initially set by the Board of Supervisors for appointing
or reappointing to the open position.
Continued To:
In some circumstances, when no applications for vacant positions have
been received, or if an overwhelming number of applications are received,
the appointment date may be continued by the Supervisors. If the appointment
has not been continued to a date certain, the vacancy is indicated as "open".
