ANDREA FOX FUND
The Andrea Fox Fund was established in 2002, by the Marin County
Board of Supervisors, and is administered by the County of Marin,
Department of Health and Human Services. The current fund includes
monies provided through the Marin County Board of Supervisors,
and donations from individual community members.
Andrea was a beloved County employee who battled breast cancer
for four years. Throughout her illness, she remained committed
to her work and colleagues while lobbying for resources and research
funding. Struck with the disease at a young age, she advocated
for early detection, for women to be aware of changes in their
breasts, and to seek help early. Andrea Fox was a community activist
and a Board Member of Marin Breast Cancer Watch (currently named
Zero Breast Cancer). She was dedicated to finding a cure and wanted
women who could not provide for themselves to have the support
and resources they needed regardless of their ability to pay.
Since its inception in 2002, the Marin County Board of Supervisors
has contributed $175,000 to the Fund; Kaiser Permanente San Rafael
Medical Center has contributed $20,000 and; Andrea's friends,
family and colleagues contributed an additional $34,586 bringing
the total to $229,586.
The first four funding cycles of the Andrea Fox Fund supported
a total of 23 projects that resulted in a yoga video for women
in treatment, acupuncture and holistic health coaching, daily
meals for women in treatment and their families, breast exams,
diagnostic funding for women under 40 years of age, outreach,
support services, a diagnostic funding program, advocacy, translation,
and case management for women with breast cancer in Marin.
