Environment - Current Issues
Picture of salmon One of the efforts I am most proud of is FishNet 4C, a six county project to facilitate restoration of fisheries. This program has received over $400,000 in funding for a project examining County practices and permitting which affect fish. In November of 2001 FishNet received the Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award

In Marin County a key step has been the formation of a "Fishery Protection Team" which has been actively working on Marin's policies and practices.
I also serve as Chair of For the Sake of the Salmon, a multi-state organization. The mission of For the Sake of the Salmon is to support efforts to protect and restore salmon to levels ensuring healthy, sustainable natural populations and productive fisheries in the Pacific salmon states of North America.
Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery project The Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Initiative -Along with other members of the FishNet team, most notably Sonoma County, I have also been working with representatives from California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska to gain support for the Pacific Coastal Salmonid Initiative. As a result, over $325 million in federal funds has provided for fishery restoration in the last three years, with $41 million coming to California.
Recognizing the regional value of our local watersheds, I successfully nominated the Lagunitas Watershed for study by the Joint Task Force for California Watershed Management. This is a joint effort of the California Resource Agency and the State Water Resource Control Board to study state efforts to protect watersheds and their interactions with local efforts.
Guiding and and fundraising for the Bolinas Lagoon Restoration remains a priority in my second term.
I am actively involved with several Tomales Bay Water Quality efforts, including raising grant funds for County efforts to protect water quality and providing $50,000 in funding to the Tomales Bay Watershed Council.
Trails: I serve on the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council and am an active proponent of trails throughout Marin County.
Inkwells Bridge Inkwells Bridge - This bridge will provide a new trail connection linking County Open Space in the San Geronimo and Lucas Valleys to West Marin State and National Parks
Pinegulch Ponds Project - I have been pleased to support this collaborative effort between the organic farmers of Bolinas and the National Park Service. Its goal is to create off stream storage ponds to provide a year round water supply for farms without diminishing summer flows in Pinegulch Creek. Construction is anticipated in Summer of 2003
